Join The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team

When others can’t go, we will.
When others can’t continue, we do.
If you’re built for hard terrain, long hours, and meaningful service—this is your call to step forward.

The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team is a volunteer, mission-ready unit that responds to lost, injured, and endangered persons across some of the most demanding terrain in California. We operate directly alongside the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office, integrating with deputies and emergency services to execute operations that demand discipline, judgment, and grit.

What You’ll Do

  • Search & Recovery: Wilderness, coastal, maritime, and urban operations—day or night, fair weather or foul.
  • Technical Rescue: High-angle rope systems, cliff and ravine access, confined spaces.
  • Swift Water & Flood Response: Cold, fast, unforgiving environments where teamwork saves lives.
  • Disaster Response: Earthquakes, storms, and mass-casualty incidents when the community needs us most.

What We Expect

  • Commitment: This isn’t casual volunteering. Training, readiness, and accountability matter.
  • Physical & Mental Toughness: You’ll carry weight, move under stress, and make decisions when it counts.
  • Team First: We win together. Ego stays home.
  • Integrity: You represent the Sheriff, the County, and the people we serve.

What You’ll Gain

  • Elite Training: SAR fundamentals, navigation, medical, rope, water, and operational leadership.
  • Purpose: Real missions with real consequences—service that matters.
  • Brotherhood & Sisterhood: A tight, professional team forged by shared hardship.
  • Pride: Standing the line when others can’t.

Who Should Apply

  • Outdoor professionals, athletes, veterans, first responders, tradespeople, students—anyone with the drive to train hard and serve harder. Prior experience helps, but character and commitment matter more.

Ready to Answer the Call?

If you’re willing to train, to be uncomfortable, and to show up when it’s hardest—we want you.

Apply now. Train hard. Stand ready.
Until the mission is complete.
